An oyster warehouse in Haymarket
A young fishmonger, John Scott, opens an oyster warehouse on Coventry Street. ‘Scott’s Oyster Rooms’ soon becomes one of London’s most celebrated seafood restaurants.
There are few institutions that have remained as coveted, or as enduring, as Scott’s. What began with a devotion to exceptional produce has, over 175 years, become a tradition of uncompromising quality, impeccable hospitality and timeless elegance.

A young fishmonger, John Scott, opens an oyster warehouse on Coventry Street. ‘Scott’s Oyster Rooms’ soon becomes one of London’s most celebrated seafood restaurants.

Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, is often seen at Scott’s. It is here that he reportedly discovers the dry martini ‘shaken not stirred’.

In The Great Escape, Scott’s is the place two prisoners of war dream of: the first restaurant they wish to dine in when the war is over.

After more than a century on Coventry Street, Scott’s moves to Mount Street in Mayfair, where the restaurant remains to this day.

Richard Caring acquires Caprice Holdings in 2005 and buys Scott’s later that year. After a refurbishment by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio it reopens in November 2006 to critical acclaim.

Sixteen years later a second Scott’s opens on the Richmond riverside, carrying on the same heritage and menu.

A 175 Chablis, an anniversary seafood platter and a cocktail list with Tanqueray N° TEN mark the milestone.
After more than a century on Coventry Street, Scott’s moved to 20 Mount Street in 1967, where its story continues. Generations have gathered around its tables, drawn by the same enduring pleasures: oysters, Dover sole, Champagne and the unmistakable atmosphere of an evening at Scott’s.
One hundred and seventy-five years is a remarkable milestone. For Scott’s, it is simply the continuation of a legacy that began in 1851.

Created to celebrate twenty years of Scott’s under Richard Caring, a special edition in a commemorative box. £149 to take home from Mount Street.
